Organizers for The Sundance Film Festival announced official dates and venues for its Boulder debut on Tuesday.

The festival will make its 10-day debut Jan. 21-31, 2027, after beating out Utah and Ohio to become the next host to the popular festival.

Sundance is moving from its longtime home in Park City, Utah. Last year’s decision was based on Boulder’s small-town feel and community engagement, as well as a substantial monetary incentive that was just short of $70 million.

The 2027 festival will include nearly every public and private space in Boulder for a city-wide experience. Fans will watch films in official venues that include the Dairy Arts Center, Boulder High School, Boulder Theater, Chautauqua Auditorium, Cinemark Century Boulder, eTown Hall and several auditoriums on the CU Campus.

Other talks and programming are scheduled to happen at the Canyon Theater at the Boulder Public Library and several other locations.

“Nestled at the base of Colorado’s iconic Flatirons, venues across the city and CU Boulder’s campus provide an ideal setting for festivalgoers from across the world to come together, revel in art, spark conversation, and create unforgettable memories,” said Eugene Hernandez, Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming Director, in a press release. “Boulder offers a renowned creative arts and tech scene, paired with the vibrant CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff. We’ll share more details in the coming months and hope you’ll join us on our journey to Boulder as we build the Sundance Film Festival’s new home.”

The festival will feature film debuts, film-focused events and conversations. The Sundance Film Festival is a program that works with the nonprofit Sundance Institute, which supports emerging filmmakers through immersive labs and residencies.
