Applications are open for those interested in filling a Colorado Springs council seat after the resignation of District 2 representative Tom Bailey.
Bailey resigned during Tuesday's regular meeting, following a successful petition to send a recall to voters. Bailey had five days to resign before the recall would go to a special election.
City council will hold a special public meeting to discuss and vote on a candidate to fill the vacancy, though it has not yet set a date for that meeting. Council needs to fill the seat by April 13.
The appointed councilor will fill one of the three years left in the office’s term. The remainder of the term will be on the April 2027 ballot and the appointed councilor could run for that office. In 2029, the seat will be back on the ballot, and resume the 4-year-term.
Applicants must be at least 25-years-old with a minimum one-year residence in Colorado Springs. They must also reside in Colorado Springs District 2, and be a citizen of the United States.
