After hundreds of law enforcement officers responded to what turned out to be a prank at Adams City High School on Wednesday, two students have been arrested.
Two students face charges of false report of explosives and false report of an active shooter, both felonies, and a misdemeanor interference with staff of a school, according to the Commerce City Police Department.
Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Commerce City police officers responded to a 911 call in which the caller reported a bomb threat and an active shooter situation with injuries at Adams City High.
The school was locked down while hundreds of officers searched the area, and spotted what they believed to be a trail of blood in the school. They didn’t find a bomb, or someone with a gun — they did find two students covered in fake blood, the same kind that left a trail in the school building.
“For many, calls of this nature are their worst nightmare. Whether a first responder, a parent, a teacher or a student— most will never forget this day,” CCPD Chief Darrel Guadnola said in a social media post.
Commerce City police called the event frightening and disturbing in another post.
