The first season of lift-served skiing at Cuchara Mountain Park in Southern Colorado is in the books.
It took several years to get an old chairlift running again at the Huerfano County-owned park about 75 miles southwest of Pueblo. But the non-profit Panadero Ski Corporation reopened the lift at the once dormant ski area in January.
Volunteers staffed the rental shop, ticket office and other operations on Fridays and weekends.
Crews used snowmaking machines on the slopes whenever the temperatures were low enough at night. But with a warm winter and low snowfall, the ski season there ended on Sunday.
Uphill rides in a trailer with runners pulled by a snow cat were offered during the two previous winter seasons, as work to refurbish the lift was underway.
The park is open year-round and offers a variety of other activities depending on the season, like disc golf, hiking and mountain biking.
