Olympians

Colorado might never have hosted the Olympic Games, but it certainly builds great Olympians. In Eagle County, a young Mikaela Shiffrin carved precise turns on Colorado snow and grew into one of the most decorated alpine ski racers in history. She owns 3 Olympic medals, 2 gold, 1 silver, and is the world's winningest World Cup racer. In Summit County, Red Gerard grew up riding Colorado terrain parks. At just 17, the Silverthorne resident captured Olympic slopestyle gold. And speed skater Bonnie Blair made Colorado Springs her training base for years at the city's famed speed skating oval, refining her explosive starts and razor sharp turns. She sprinted to 5 Olympic gold medals and 1 bronze, dominating the 500m across 3 games. High altitude, thin air, big mountains. Colorado breeds Olympic champions.
