Colorado sports lost one of its most treasured coaches this week. Former Denver Nuggets coach Doug Moe passed away Tuesday at the age of 87. Moe was Denver’s head coach for 10 seasons in the 1980; his 432 victories set a franchise record that was only recently broken.

For those watching and listening to Nuggets games, Moe was a show onto himself. With his unkempt hair and rumpled clothing, Moe often looked like he didn't belong on an NBA sideline, and his tirades -- whether at the referees or his own players -- were more along the lines of a comedian delivering a blue, late-night set. But no one was more authentic and beloved throughout the NBA.

Associated Press sportswriter Eddie Pells, who grew up in Denver watching Moe, shared his reflections on the coach with Colorado Matters.
